Angela Antenore - Supporting Environmental Justice and Health

Angela Antenore grew up in Long Beach, CA where she gained a deep appreciation for the outdoors through hiking, camping and exploring the diverse environments of Southern California, from the ocean and beaches to mountains, rivers, and open spaces. Her engagement in community advocacy started with a focus on social and environmental justice. Her appreciation for clean air, water, and land shaped her personal and professional values.

Angela is the CEO/Principal for Antenore & Associates, a consulting firm that supports organizations in making meaningful systemic cultural change, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Angela is proficient in Spanish and has worked extensively throughout the U.S. including Puerto Rico, traveled to over 30 countries, and has consulted in countries including Canada, Columbia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, The Netherlands, The Philippines, South Korea, Spain, and more.

Since moving to Santa Barbara in 1991, Angela has served on a variety of local nonprofit Boards that focus on access and equity, as well as social and environmental justice. Losing her entire home and office in the Tea Fire of 2008 catalyzed her focus on climate change impacts. She actively engages in activities and dialogues around the importance of supporting local farmers, buying organic, focusing on native plants, switching to clean energy, and supporting healthy environments—for everyone.

Angela believes strongly in the connection between our environment and health. As a breast cancer survivor—diagnosed in her 30's—Angela has long been concerned that there may be a connection between her cancer and exposure to pesticides as an adolescent. Advocating for policies and practices that support health equity have become a central priority for her. This now includes supporting CEC’s Climate Justice work.

She is always learning and actively pursues ways to synthesize the ideas, perspectives, and contributions of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. This, Angela believes, is pivotal to informing how we can change our behaviors and nurture innovative strategies to support a healthy planet and people.

Angela's appreciation of the Community Environmental Council's critical work to address the climate crisis motivated her to include CEC as a beneficiary in her Trust. We are grateful for the support of inspiring individuals like Angela, who make a difference in our community in numerous ways. You can learn more about becoming a member of CEC’s Livable World Legacy Society and how to make a legacy or estate gift to CEC on our website.
