2013 City Council Candidates on Transportation
CEC, the Coalition for Sustainable Transportation (COAST), and the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition developed a questionnaire for Santa Barbara City Council and Mayoral candidates. The questionnaire focused on current transportation issues, such as the attractiveness of alternative transportation and the jobs/housing imbalance.
We asked the following questions:
The City of Santa Barbara is updating its bicycle master plan next year. What elements do you see as important to improve our city’s bicycling infrastructure?
How do you plan to improve accessibility and safety for all users of our streets?
The jobs/housing imbalance in Santa Barbara is forcing more and more local employees to live elsewhere and commute long distances. Is this the City’s responsibility and if so, what can the City do to alleviate this issue?
Please list three specific transportation improvements you would prioritize to improve our regional transportation.
Traffic is always cited as a concern in Santa Barbara, do you see active transportation having a role in reducing upcoming street congestion?
Six candidates responded to the questionnaire. Since CEC’s status as a 501(c)(3) does not allow the organization to endorse candidates, the unedited answers are provided here:
