The Beros Go All-In on EVs

When Ventura resident Shelley Bero started car shopping in early 2021, she never expected an electric vehicle to be the most affordable and practical choice. That changed after attending a webinar hosted by the Community Environmental Council (CEC), where she learned how EVs are extremely efficient and can deliver significant cost savings. Soon after, she leased a brand-new Chevy Bolt for just $75 per month. And never looked back.

By early 2024, when her lease term was coming to an end, Shelley was ready to go all-in. With guidance from our team, she took advantage of a $4,000 federal tax credit and a $4,000 rebate from Southern California Edison, cutting the price of a gently used 2021 Chevy Bolt down from $16,000 to just $8,000. Her husband Ed, once an EV skeptic, was so impressed with the performance and affordability of Shelley’s new car that he traded his worn-out 2002 Crown Victoria for a new Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Now an all-electric family, the Beros save thousands while reducing their environmental impact and encourage others to do the same. “We really appreciate the help and encouragement we received from CEC,” Shelley said, “We’re now a two-car EV family and loving it. We’re singing the praises of EVs to everybody we meet.”
