This free exhibit asks 12 artists in our community to create recycled works of art centered on an environmental issue personal to them, using recycled materials typically destined for landfill or ocean waste. Participating artists will address important environmental issues such as climate change, species extinction, fast fashion, the pollinator crisis, wildfires, tech waste, landfill waste, ocean plastics, deforestation etc.
Each artist will display a narrative regarding the artwork’s deeper significance regarding environmental and social impacts, artist experience, place, history, innovation, story, identity or culture, etc. The opening reception on March 29 will include a “Make a Fish Wish” activity, the construction of a live plastic-lid “Mandala Assemblage”, information provided by local non-profits about opportunities for action, music, and snacks/beverages.
