What is FRESA?

FRESA (Food Resilience, Equity, Sustainability & Action) is a community-led coalition of food system advocates in Santa Barbara County, including nonprofits, government, private industry, and individuals. FRESA is affiliated with the Santa Barbara County Food Action Network, which the Community Environmental Council helped activate.

FRESA’s motto is “Fresh Food for Everyone.” The coalition is working to expand community access to affordable, locally-produced fruits and vegetables in the North County and Mid County regions. FRESA aims to help make it possible for CalFresh participants to stretch their food dollars with Market Match and use their CalFresh EBT card at a farmers market near them, no matter where in the county they live. They also want to ensure that farmers markets are welcoming for all community members, of any preferred language or cultural background. Learn more on FRESA’s website.
