Nuestro Tiempo

What is Nuestro Tiempo?

An initiative of the Community Environmental Council, Nuestro Tiempo is a space for Spanish-speaking community members to learn more about how climate change intersects with key issues, have questions answered, share ideas and concerns, and design ways to take grassroots action.

Nuestro Tiempo meetings are open to all community members and are held completely in Spanish. Each meeting features a topic relevant to the community and includes guest speakers, as well as plenty of time for group discussion and questions. Past meetings have featured speakers from organizations such as Alpha Resources, Latino Elders Outreach Network (LEON), and Eastside Library, and covered topics such as:

  • Financial incentives available for purchasing or leasing electric vehicles

  • Natural disaster planning and building community resilience

  • Plastic pollution and recycling tips

  • Food rescue and food security efforts in the Santa Barbara region

“Because of my participation in Nuestro Tiempo, I know that my voice matters. I now have the resources to know who to go to about things and I have confidence and feel empowered to be part of decision-making that affects my community.”
