Roberto Le Fort, Le Fort’s Organic Crops
“If the land takes care of you, you have to take care of it. CEC helped us turn long-term goals for the farm into real practices that will benefit this land for years to come.”
Roberto Le Fort stands in the new dedicated pollinator habitat on his farm in Creston, CA, implemented with the support of CEC and the Pollinator Habitat Program.
Roberto Le Fort grew up on his grandmother’s farm in Chile before making his way to California, where years of hard work eventually allowed him to purchase ten acres in Creston in 1997. Today, nearly three decades later, Le Fort's Organic Crops is a thriving, certified organic operation producing free-range eggs and fresh vegetables for Central Coast communities.
For Roberto, stewarding the land is just as important as the food it produces. When he wanted to restore native habitat and support pollinators on his farm, he reached out to the Community Environmental Council (CEC) for help accessing California’s Pollinator Habitat Program (PHP).
From grant applications and reimbursement paperwork to plant selection and technical guidance, CEC supported Roberto through the process. With funding secured through PHP, Roberto restored riparian habitat and planted native shrubs and wildflowers that improve biodiversity, support pollinators, and strengthen soil health across the farm.
For small, family-run farms like Le Fort's Organic Crops, having a trusted partner can make ambitious climate-smart agriculture projects possible. Through programs like Central Coast Ag Link, CEC helps growers overcome financial and technical barriers so they can invest in the long-term health of their land, their livelihoods, and their communities.
