The Climate Stewards Certification Program is building a community-based network of climate activists and providing an important way to strengthen the web of local community support.

About Dylan

As the Volunteer Coordinator at Santa Barbara Sea Center, located on Stearns Wharf, Dylan Otte recruits and trains volunteers to help develop their visitor stewardship and science communication skills. Based on what she learned in the Climate Stewards course, Dylan was excited to incorporate climate messaging into the Sea Center’s Wet Deck interactive display, which offers visitors the opportunity to sample ocean water and sediment from directly below the Center and record environmental data. She also plans to add additional measurements to the program, so that the Center can track variables that may be influenced by climate change, such as water temperature and changes in animal diversity and abundance. Dylan’s climate programming will engage approximately 100 volunteers—90% of which are high school or college students—and the over 100,000 visitors who explore the Center each year.
