Jamie Collins, Nonprofit Director

I’m a nonprofit director, and I’m a CEC Climate Steward.

My job is to prepare kids for the future, and that includes climate change. I joined CEC’s Climate Stewards course because I recognized that natural disasters were hitting our region hard. A lot of the kids in our program live in neighborhoods that are evacuated during disasters like floods. From the course, I learned that lower-income communities are hit exponentially harder, without resources to rebuild. Kids are living through more climate disasters now than in previous generations. My passion is youth advocacy, and that includes equipping children with the language to understand and talk about natural disasters.

About Jamie

Jamie Collins, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Carpinteria, enrolled in CEC’s Climate Stewards certification program to gain a deeper understanding of how climate change is impacting our region, how to communicate about these impacts, and how to take action. Jamie is applying what she learned during the course to introduce the over 1,000 youth served annually by Girls, Inc. to climate stewardship and the climate crisis. Through Girls, Inc. programming, these young people are now being connected to meaningful advocacy efforts, and are empowered to push for impactful policies both locally and nationally. This involvement has raised these young peoples’ awareness and equipped them with the tools to become proactive climate advocates.
