MTD Transit Service Reduction

Update

183 people took action for transit service.

Original Alert

Teamsters Union Local 186, which represents MTD drivers, mechanics, and utility workers, has concerns about the impact of California’s Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) on bargaining rights. These concerns have created a situation that may cause MTD to lose federal funding. Loss of this funding would force MTD to reduce its operating budget by approximately 30 percent and severely reduce transit service in our area - possibly as soon as this Fall.

The letter sent to the Department of Labor:

Dear Ann Comer:

I am writing to urge the Department of Labor to immediately certify Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District's pending FTA grant funding, and reject future objections alleging that PEPRA violates federal transit law. Please, don't force MTD to cut our service.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
